If you are hunting for a government job, today’s picture is active. The National Job Portal (NJP) is currently listing 159+ active vacancies across more than 222 departments, and separate recruitment facilitation services are reporting fresh postings this week, including batches of vacancies posted as recently as 22 September.
That means real openings are open right now — but the window on each one is short, and most candidates lose their chance not because they were ineligible, but because they applied late or submitted incomplete documents.

Where Government Jobs Are Listed
Know your sources before you start. Genuine government vacancies appear in a small number of places:
- National Job Portal (njp.gov.pk) — the official government portal, with verified postings approved by the departments themselves.
- Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) — for federal posts filled through competitive testing.
- Provincial Public Service Commissions — PPSC for Punjab, and the equivalent commissions for Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
- Individual department websites — many autonomous bodies advertise directly on their own sites.
- Official newspaper advertisements — still the legal requirement for most public-sector recruitment.
If a vacancy only exists on a Facebook page or a WhatsApp group and cannot be traced to one of the above, treat it with suspicion.
What Is Usually on Offer
Government recruitment in Pakistan typically covers a wide band of roles rather than a single type. In a normal week you will see:
- Administrative and clerical posts — junior clerks, assistants, office superintendents.
- Technical and engineering roles — sub-engineers, technicians, IT support.
- Health sector posts — nursing, paramedical, and hospital administration.
- Teaching and education roles — school and college faculty, and education department staff.
- Security and uniformed services — police, rangers, rescue services, and defence cadet inductions.
- Project-based contract positions — commonly funded by development programmes and advertised for fixed terms.
Pay scales, qualification requirements and age limits vary widely, which is why reading the individual advertisement is unavoidable.
How to Apply Without Losing Your Chance
Most rejections happen for avoidable reasons. Follow this order:
Step 1 — Read the entire advertisement. Not just the headline. Check the qualification, the age limit, the domicile requirement, and whether experience is mandatory.
Step 2 — Confirm the closing date and work backwards. If the last date is a week away, do not start on the final day. Portals slow down under last-minute traffic.
Step 3 — Prepare documents in advance. Typically required:
- CNIC
- Domicile certificate
- Educational certificates and transcripts
- Recent passport-size photographs
- Experience letters, where the post requires experience
- Bank challan receipt for the processing fee, where applicable
Step 4 — Apply online where the portal is provided. Most departments now accept only online applications. Create your profile, upload documents in the required format and size, and submit before the deadline.
Step 5 — Save your application number and challan receipt. You will need these at the test and interview stage.
Step 6 — Keep checking your email and the portal. Test dates, roll number slips and interview calls are often announced only online.
Mistakes That Cost Candidates the Job
- Applying for a post where the qualification does not match, on the assumption that “they might consider it”. They usually do not.
- Using a photograph that does not meet the specified size or format.
- Entering the wrong CNIC or date of birth, which then mismatches every other document.
- Missing the fee deposit deadline even though the form was submitted.
- Not reading whether the post is permanent or contract.
A Word of Caution
Government recruitment is merit-based and transparent. No genuine recruitment process requires you to pay a private individual to secure a post. Any demand for payment to an agent or middleman should be reported to the department concerned.
Be equally careful about anyone promising a guaranteed selection or offering to “fill the form for you”. The application is something you can complete yourself, and the fee, where applicable, is paid to a bank — never to a person.
Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I apply? Start at njp.gov.pk for verified postings. For testing-based federal and provincial posts, use FPSC and your provincial public service commission.
Is there a fee? Many posts require a processing fee, deposited through a bank challan. Genuine fees go to a bank, never to an individual.
How early should I apply? As early as possible. Portals get congested near the closing date, and incomplete applications are rejected at screening.
Disclaimer: Vacancy figures reflect the National Job Portal’s published listing at the time of writing and change frequently as posts open and close.
